for the second straight year the Alabama Crimson Tide ended their season in New Orleans. The Tide defended their Sugar Bowl title winning 31-28 in overtime over Virginia Tech. No name OLB Darius Brown came up big in overtime blocking VaTech’s FG attempt, which was then followed by Bama’s GWFG. Sanchez (who would finish the season with school highs of 2036 yards and 25 TDs) accepted the Sugar Bowl trophy at the end of the game and the fans demanded “One More Year”. He handed the trophy to Marcus Minor, probably hinting that he is giving the team to the Sophmore QB. Minor would finish the season with 3069 yards and 26 TDs, but he needs to learn how to take a sack as he threw 20 INTs
The MVP of the 2014 Sugar Bowl however went to a player on the on the losing side as True Frosh Kyle Smith had 202 yards and went into the endzone 4 times (all of Va Tech’s TDs). The Flint Michigan native was the #1 rated WR out of high school. He’ll be one to watch.

Key Stats
- Minor 22-30 392 yards 2 TDs 2 INTs
- Sanchez 101 yards 2 TDs
- Wayne 4-104; A.Thomas 4-95-1; Holey 3-71-1; Richard 3-56
- Branch 9 tackles
This marks the 4th straight season in which the Tide finished with a 13-1 record. But this was their lowest ranking at #8 in both the AP and Coaches poll. But with only 10 seniors graduating (let’s pray that not too many JRs leave) and Marcus Minor learning from the South Carolina loss, the Tide will be a favorite for the national title in 2015

p.s. Wisconsin beat USC in the national title, yawn!!! & West Virginia goes undefeated

Despite several injuries (3 OL out and stating CBs Mack and Heath out) the Crimson Tide played outstanding in the SEC Title game. Marcus Minor spread the ball around throwing pass TDs to three different receivers, while Seth Sanchez made another statement to the Heisman committee with over 300 yards of total offence, including a 100 yard KR TD as seen above (screenshot reminds me of the Little Miss Sunshine poster).
Alabama 45, Tennessee 28
4th straight SEC Title
Key Stats
- Minor 18-30 259 yards 3 TDs 1 INT
- Sanchez 124 yards 1 TD; 5-20; 170 KR yards 1 KRTD
- Thomas 5-86-1; Wayne 3-60-1; Richard 2-33-1, Young 2-32 (and brought some L.A. ladies for the team)
- Tackle Trey Swoopes was sick
However the entire team mood changed when news came of Seth Sanchez’s heisman screwjob. The Mexican American superstar RB was invited to the ceremony at the Downtown Athletic Club in New York but finished 5th in voting. Houston RB Ronnie Mitchell won.
Compare
Mitchell 1429 yards 18 TDs; 34-563-12
Sanchez 1935 yards 23 TDs; 34-371-3; 804 KRY 2 KRTDs, (plays in the SEC)
Now the 12 REC TDs are impressive, but come on, Sanchez plays in the SEC. It probably didn’t help that Sanchez complained about the treatement of Mexican workers at the Athletic club before the ceremony. Sanchez ended up being named a 1st Team All American and accepted the honor, but there was a sense of disappointment in his voice when he claimed “I am not a 1st Team All American, I am a 1st Team Mexican American, this goes out to my team and all the hispanic americans working jobs without benefits.”
Last game of the year is against 12-1 Virignia Tech in the Sugar Bowl. Their undefeated season was put to an end by Maryland in the ACC Final.
p.s. DT Jamie Hughes was also named 1st Team AA, but most proud of true-FR G Jeremaine Baker & Calagary native Clarence Morgan who both earned 1st Team SEC honours. (yes i used a “u” in the word “honour” at the request of Morgan)
