2018 recap
December 14, 2007 · 2 Comments
i have the flu again, so this is going to be quick
the 2018 title game marked the 3rd time in my 13 years that Alabama reached the finals. 2011 saw a heartbreaking loss in OT to Oklahoma, while the rematch in 2012 was an early morning affair, once again resulting in an OU victory. this year’s national title lacked the fanfare but the game was still insane. UCLA came out with a 24-17 victory on JR Nate Stephens’s 117 yards and 2 TDs.

Alabama’s Tim Tebow clone Louis Frazier (of Chicago, IL) was 14-23 for 160 yards and 1 TD and had an uncharacteristic 2 INTs. He was also held to only 27 yards on the ground and 1 TD. Inuit WR Ek Chua Smith of Anchorage Alaska ended his career with 5 rec and 93 yards. So upset with the loss was WR / thug Wendell Harris, that he attempted a flying kick on a UCLA defender after a reception. He had 1 TD and hopefully he will stay for his SR year

Key Highlights from the season
- Alabama finishes the season 12-2 and a #4 ranking in both polls. Ek Chua Smith leaves Alabama with several school records (217 rec 4045 yards 28 TDs)
- Bama still made the BCS Title game despite losing several starters for most of the year due to suspension or injury (this was the last year of Alabama’s 2 year probation)
- Also the administration only offered coach Namath a two year contract extension. Meaning that they are pissed that there is no national title in 13 years. But the school wants rsSO Frazier and JR Harris to stay, so firing Namath was not an option.

Key end of year stats
Frazier 172.7 rating 182-275 2711 yards 23 TDs 8 INTs 608 yards 11 TDs
Junior Williams 934 yards 12 TDs
Stevie Green 619 yards 5 TDs (injured most of the year)
EK Chua Smith 68-1325-9
Wendell Harris 48-673-6 (clutch!!!!)
JUCO kicker John Webster Groza winner 18-21 FGs
2nd Team AA – SR DT Derek Llloyd and SO CB Jacob Martin
Namath won’t leave Alabama unless he is fired (which could happen if there is no National Title in the next 2 years), on the road to Bowden’s career win record. The SEC will once again be tough with Arkansas, Auburn, Tennessee, LSU, & Florida all finishing in the Top 25

hahahah a rod and buffalo
well with my long weekend consumed watching white girls crank that soulja boy i skimmed through the regular season, playing half the plays and the other half using super sim. It was actually pretty fun. Plus in this 1st year of Dynasty my focus is on recruiting Coach Sanchez’s 1st class. Here are the results:
won 28-24 vs. Rice (played the whole 4th quarter, it was nuts)
won 21-16 at Tulane
won 30-17 vs. Southern Miss
loss 21-45 at Central Florida
In the games I tested out Cals, South Carolina and Florida’s playbook, i think I’m going to recruit players that will fit the Florida playbook.
the loss against UCF kept me out of the Top 25 & Fred Rouse got injured and will be out for the year, but hey UTEP is 10-2 and will be facing Memphis in the CUSA Championship. And if we win that game, look who we’ll be playing in the Liberty Bowl
wow!!!!!!!!
Early Commits So far
Terrence Tatum TE Humble, TX – 4 STAR, #9TE, Houston Area star
Michael Pitts DE Robstwon, TX – 4 STAR, #3 JUCO DE, 4.69 wht!
Troy Vickers QB Dickinson, TX – 3 STAR, #37 QB, #8 in TX, another Houston Area star
Ed Morgan CB Aldine, TX – 3 STAR, #34 CB, 4.39 Houston Area again
Nick O’Brien C Farmer’s Branch, TX – 2 STAR, Bench 420, Dallas Area player
Looks like most of my recruits were influenced by UTEP’s victories against SMU and Houston, as there are no players from West Texas, however there are 3 players from the Houston area and one so far from Dallas
go Miners

staying put in el paso

okay, changing my mind again but this time I am sticking with the 9-1-5. (I mean I spent 30 minutes on my fancy new banner). flirted with FSU and USC, but now after a couple games and my new sliders i’m ready to continue the Sanchez legacy from NCAA 07 into NCAA 08.
so i played my first game with my new fancy heisman sliders (believe or not its easier than AA, plus gameplay is more balanced and realistic), and it was a back and forth match between 5-2 Houston (UTEP was 6-1). Anyways the miners came out on top 31-24, with Cali born QB Brandis Dew (wearing coach Sanchez’s #7) rushing in for a TD with a minute left to go

here are the results so far from Year 1. the Houston game is the only game I played on Hesiman, while the others were played with a mix of Varsity, AA and the new fancy super sim option. my only loss was a tough match to Texas Tech where they threw for over 500 yards on me; proving that i need to recruit as many DBs as possible to handle teams that have mostly 4 and 5 wr sets.
results:
won 24-17 vs New Mexico
loss 24-29 at Texas Tech
won 31-14 at New Mexico State
won 24-21 vs Florida International
won 27-14 at SMU
won 41-7 vs Tulsa
won 27-7 vs East Carolina
won 31-24 vs Houston
on D FS Quentin Demps has saved my ass on several occasions, he looks to be the be the only player on the team who will get drafted in madden and he leads the team in INTs with 6 and is 2nd in team tackles with 52. He’s the heart of my D and it sucks that he’s a SR
offense has been a bit sketchy but i have a lot of talent to work with. Dew who has been converted to DE in real life, is my QB, but he has already thrown 13 INTs. If not for the high profile transfers to bail Dew out, UTEP’s 7-1 record would be much worse. My WRs are led by Florida State transfers Lorne Sam SR and Fred Rouse SO and the star of the offense has been Arizona Wildcat transfer RB Marcus Thomas. Thomas is a SR, but Oregon transfer JR Terrell Jackson has been a decent spell so far
Douchewraps midseason Stats
- Dew 80-150 1405 yards 12 TDs 13 INTs; 140 yards rush 1 TD
- Thomas 843 yards 10 TDs
- Sam 29-572-4
- Rouse 21-368-4
loving the transfers on the team but the heart of Dynasty is with recruited players and after the Houston win, 4 star TE Terrence Tatum of Humble, TX hard commited to UTEP. The Houston area player was my #1 target and he cancelled a visit to Texas Tech in week 12. He was sold on staying in the state of Texas and on Coach Sanchez. Most of my targets are 3 and 2 star players, i have two more 4 star JUCOs on my list, but they are leaning towards other schools
so it may have taken until october, but things look like they are back to normal. now only if some people could stop playing Halo 3 and get back to their dynasties. hopefully with no more personal dramas and perhaps only my FIFA franchise getting in the way, UTEP wil lbe headed towards a BCS Bowl

new beginnings
September 26, 2007 · Leave a Comment
its been a tough summer for me, long work hours, eskima hunting, countless weddings killing my pocket, and an irritating rash, but I’m gradually building a bridge, getting over it and finding a new direction. this fall, much like the network tv schedule. i’m looking to make a lot of changes, but perhaps none as big as what I am about to announce:
Chris, please don’t hate me for this, but I’ve decided on a Dynasty team and you may not like this
After attempting a Dynasty with UTEP and Florida St, I realized that the transition from PS2 to 360 was tougher than I thought. In NCAA 07 on PS2, I had a title and system that I had been playing on for several years. Perfect sliders were found and as this blog shows, I had a blast playing 12 years of Dynasty. However on 360 I’m having a hard time, I ‘m still not accustomed to the controls as I find myself looking down at my controller during pass plays to find out where the Blue button is (I still get red and blue mixed up) and bam SACK or INT.
Point being that I need a Top 10 team to learn the game and have fun, or at least until I’m more comfortable. And I’ve gone with the Evil Empire:

No, not leg warmers, but they are fairly evil at times
Yes folks the most hated team in the land, the #1 ranked (well at least until they probably have some dumb loss to CAL or Oregon, love the Trojans, but I’m still not sold on Booty or the CBs) USC Trojans. Since moving out west, the Trojans have grown on me, I hated all things west coast before I moved here, but a hangover New Years day in Abbotsford. BC sold me and I hopped on the bandwagon (I’ll go deeper into how I became a hardcore fan later). Since then I followed USC’s recruiting targets like crazy and actually ended up bigger of fans of names like Sanchez and Turner more than Bush and Leinart. And in real life Turner is now getting some serious PT and after playing a bunch of multiplayer and online games, the Tennessee kid is my favorite target. I’m also big on Katrina kid McKnight and Staten Island’s Hazleton. I took as much interest in their dramatic last second commits to USC as I took in dramas of names like Cavallari and Conrad.

Morale of the Story: I’m having fun using this team in the Video Game world and Turner is sick.

Wait….. but how, do you ask, can I make this Dynasty exciting?
Well this blog will be different from last year’s Bama Dynasty (still feel guilty for not winning an NC) in that it will be told through the eyes of my first recruiting class. I will only play 6 years with USC (07 + the 5 years it will take for my entire first class to be grad) then move off to some team in the SEC. What amazed me about the last three recruiting classes at USC is how cocky they are, they don’t read depth charts but they still come to Lalala land. So I think it will be interesting to just follow one class and see them live up to the hype or have their expectations fall short. I read a Penn State book that followed one class for 5 years and it was really good, so I hope to keep your interest with this new approach to my Dynasty in 08.
Update: Named Stolenbike Bama star Terrence Graves as coach and had a grand time blowing out Idaho and I got my first commit already, The top LB in the land (#5 overall player) Cory Thompson of Vallejo, CA. More info to come

leaving UTEP but new one is starting. I need a higher rated team to get more used to NG gameplay. And after much debate as to which team I should use, I decided on this guy’s team…

rags to riches
June 9, 2007 · 1 Comment
sorry i know that before NCAA 08 that there is still some unfinished business with my bama dynasty and I’ll admit that I’ve been going out a bit and playing some Gallop Racer (more info on the Casey Cook and Terrence Graves owned Stables later) which has taken time away from my Dynasty. But my focus is still there. I am still undefeated and I am aware that I still have Tennessee, LSU and Auburn still left on the slate.
However today, my attention belongs to the Filly Rags to Riches, who won the Belmont Stakes in a Dead Heat against Preakness winner Curlin!!!! The first female in over 100 years to win that race. Yes I know I’m a chauvinist, but I bet $40 on the Seattle Slew’s granddaughter to win (paid about $250). And frankly I feel like I’ve won the NBA Championship. So I just want to say thank you to this lovely lady
